At the beginning of this school year, many people failed the initial AP Chemistry test because no one studied the things taught in Chemistry 1 and also procrastinating on summer work until the last moment. Michael and I have decided to organize a chemistry preparation packet in conjunction with Mr. Shiroma for students interested in taking AP Chemistry next year. The session will cover material taught in chemistry this year and will give students materials they should look at over the summer.
Describe what you see as the end result of your project. What will it look/feel like? How does your project align with our mission and goals as a class?
At the end of the project, we will have a study packet summarizing all the information we need to know for next year, and will be giving it out to other students interested in taking AP Chemistry. It will require a compilation of all our notes from Chemistry, requiring Michael and I to work together to make up for notes that one of us was absent for. It aligns with Leadership because we are taking the initiative to ensure that no one fails the first test in AP Chemistry next year, and we are helping Mr. Shiroma in creating a review packet that could also be the outline for a final test.
What are the obstacles and or challenges that you are anticipating when working on your project?
The major obstacles will be finding time to meet and compile information.
What are the milestones that you are going to meet? Be detailed.
There will only be one milestone date necessary as it is just a massive review packet from the entire year. The due-date will be June 15.
How will you ensure that you reach your project milestones on the dates listed above? How do you think you will overcome these foreseen obstacles?
In order to ensure that we complete the project by that time, we will be scheduling our times to do one section of notes at a time, such as molecular hybridization as one section and acids and bases as another.
What materials are you going to need to successfully carry out your project?
Materials needed will be:
-Notes from the entire year of Chemistry
-Paper to print the packet and hand out to others
What things besides materials are you going to need to be successful in your project? (examples: people or special training)
In order to completel the project specifically, it can only involve people currently taking Chemistry who have taken notes in a notebook for the entire year.
How many people will need to help you in your project? What do you see their roles being? Be specific.
The only people necessary will be Michael and I as we both have notes from the entire year in our notebooks, plus a few examples of practice problems that can be included in the packet.
What is your plan to hold yourself and your group accountable for the success of the project?
In order to make sure that we are successful with this project, we will periodically send out email reminders to finish up a certain section of the packet
